Today, in San Francisco, lesbians everywhere have lost a great friend and activist in Del Martin. She passed away in a SF hospital after being admitted two weeks ago with a broken arm.
Del and Phyllis Lyon were married on June 16 this year by SF Mayor Gavin Newsom. Ms Martin had to use a wheelchair for the ceremony. At that point, Patty and I both knew that her health was failing her.
Martin and Lyon fought for justice and equality for all gays and lesbians. I sincerely doubt that any of us would be as out as we are without the work and determination of these beautiful women.
